'Captain Phillips' Movie Review:

The movie ‘Captain Phillips’  was a very a adventurous and captivating movie that that is based on a true story. Richard Phillips is the main character of the movie and he was played by Tom Hanks. He plays the the role of the captain of the MV Maersk Alabama ship. The ship is set to travel around the northeast peninsula of Africa, on their way to Mombasa to deliver goods. When passing through Somalia, Phillips’ crew notices two suspicious boats behind their ship. Phillips and Shane Murphy, who was played by Michael Chernus check to see if they are being followed. By turning the ship and going different directions they realize that the two ships are following them and that they need to get prepared to make sure they will all stay safe. They try multiple things to scare of the boats, which works on one but the other ship seems determined not to leave. The leader of this ship was Abduwali Muse commonly known just as Muse in the movie. Muse was played by Barkhad Abdi, and is the leader of the pirates. Days later, after lots of defenses, the pirates still maintain to get on the ship. After getting on board Muse and the rest of the pirates find Phillips to ask him for money. Expecting millions of dollars, Phillips agrees to all the money in the safe, which is around $30,000. The pirates refuse the offer. Bilal, who was another pirate played by Barkhad Abduwali goes with Muse to try and find the crew Bilal. The crew sneaks up on Muse and then they are able to force the other pirates to leave the Maersk Alabama, but they manage to take Captain Phillips with them.

This movie seems to be aimed at people who like an adventurous and suspenseful movie. People who like history, or remember seeing this story on the news would probably be more likely to watch this. I feel that it is more aimed towards adults as well, because you have to have a sort of maturity factor when watching this movie. This film shows a consist showing of selflessness that Phillips shows for all of his crew members, with the number of times he puts his crew's safety way before his.Overall I thought that the movie was very well made, and even was very surprised to see how well Tom Hanks played his role. Though I really enjoyed this movie, there were some parts I saw that could've been improved. First, I thought that there needed a little more surprises. The fact that it is based of of a true story has to play a part of what gets put in, but it was kinda simple to predict what was going to happen next. There was also a big gap in between a lot of the scenes and my attention level. The film didn't really grab my attention until they saw they boats following them, and then it lost my attention again until they got on the boat. Other than that the scenes were amazingly shot, and it felt all so real, which is why I'm going to rate this film at an 7.5/10.
