News Ethics

News Ethics:

1. Using the 'Holocaust' Metaphor
An animal rights group named, "PETA" has started to campaign with a rather touchy topic. Their campaign was titled "Holocaust on your Plate," referring to the killing of millions of jews during the holocaust in 1939-1941. In this campaign they compare the slaughtering of jews, to slaughtering animals now a days.
My Opinion: I don't think this is ethical, its not right to compare humans to animals, in the first place. Let alone taking something that affected a lot of families, and use it as a toy to make more money or have a more functioning business.

2. Publishing Drunk Drivers' Photos
A man in the Anderson News wanted to start making harder consequences to people who drink and drive. His idea was to start taking people who drink and drive and publish their photos in the newspaper. The Anderson News started this in 1998, and continued since them. This method was debated whether it takes drunk drivers off the road. The only issue is that it started to affect the families of the criminals. They now face a current issue of publishing drunk driver photos.
My Opinion: I don't believe that the families should be punished for something one of there family members did. I do believe that the people that did drink and drive should be punished excessively, but I do believe it depends on what happened in each situation and not everyone should be punished the same way.

3. Plagirism: Aaargh! Pirates! (and the Press):

The ting tings' are and band that released a new album but  it was leaked online. The band was very upset because media outlet. Billboard and Rolling Stone also made it worse because they are advertising the illegal link to the album, they are not forcing their audiences to download it. The band is also very angry because people are downloading it instead of buying it. So they lost tons and tons of money. This made rolling stone and billboard gain more money and the band, ting tings' loose money due to a illegal controversy.
My opinion:It was defiantly not right for Billboard and Rolling Stones to make it worse like they did, even if they weren't "forcing" their audiences to download it. It also isn't fair that they lost tons of money because of it. So I do believe what the Rolling Stone and Billboard was unethical.
